Ruth Roman is the youngest child born to Lithuanian and Jewish parents Mary Pauline Gold (Gold) and Abraham Roman in Lynn, Massachusetts. After her father died as a Carnival barker when Ruth was just a little girl She was required to provide for the family by working as a maid and server. Ruth was raised in a poor neighborhood of Boston Massachusetts in which she went to the school. In the midst of only two years in school the young woman left to pursue the acting career. It was a difficult path to take. Although she got an opportunity in New York posing as a still for a mystery magazine, no theatre jobs came her way. Following a short stint as a club hat girl and a club hat girl, she made the decision to go home to the United States and quit her position. There she was able to earn a living in the ushering industry during the during the day and then at night performed with the New England Repertory Company. It was her first job as an actor. She received a master's diploma in drama from Bishop-Lee Theatre School.
